Fathers Day 2008

Owen made a very special pencil holder for me at school. It's on my desk at work now...

We had a great weather for father's day, so we spent a bunch of time outside. After church, Owen and I went over to a local car classic car/streed rod show that they have every fathers day and looked at all the cars. He loved the bright colors and wanted to look inside everything. They had over 100 cars there. Here's a beautiful 57 thunderbird and a nice early 30's roadster street rod.
Later in the afternoon, we washed my car together. Allison and I were working in the garden while Owen was playing in the driveway. After a while, we looked over and much to our amusement, he had stripped himself naked and was playing in the bucket.
When I asked him why he took his clothes off, he said he liked being "nudey" outside. I think we're going to have to work on this.

Here's the garden after our epic weeding exercise. Everything is growing well, except for a few rows of corn that never came up. I think we'll just replant.

Things to do on the hottest day of the year

Saturday we spent at Allison's Aunt's and Grandmother's house. My services were volunteered for staining the deck. It turned out very good, but I have to say 2x2 spires should be banned from deck construction from now until forever more. Yes, they look nice, but they take absolutely forever to stain. The stain was a semi-transparent cedar and covered very nicely.

While Owen took a nap, Allison helped with coating the deck floor and parts of the steps while I was finishing the spires which saved a huge amount of time.

This was at 5pm in the shade.
